Ann Johnson was a second generation leading lady of Lindy. She and Frankie Manning partnered in Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers between 1940-1942; and also in the Harlem Congaroos from 1947-1952.

Dance Biography:
Ann Johnson was a second generation leading lady of Lindy. She and Frankie Manning partnered in Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers between 1940-1942; and also in the Harlem Congaroos from 1947-1952.
She is quite famously known for appearing in photos in Life magazine with Frankie in 1940, in an over the head shot, and 1941, captured in a mid-air aerial sequence. She was considered a very athletic and agile dancer. Many sources credit Frankie as describing her, “Like a cat….no matter what way I threw her, she would land on her feet.”
She can be seen in the famous Lindy scene of the movie, “Hellzapoppin’ ” and in “Hot Chocolates,” as well as the movie “Killer Diller.”
